Hotel Rates Guide

The Marriott Explore Rate,
Explained Properly

✍ AirMilesHK.com Team📅 Updated August 2026⏱ 7 min read

Marriott's internal discount prices rooms 50–75% below what the public pays — and in April 2026 the whole system went digital. Here is how MMP and MMF actually work, what the spreads look like, and the eligibility truth most guides skip.

Every big hotel group runs an employee rate. Marriott's — the Explore programme — is the deepest and broadest of them: 9,000+ properties across 40+ brands in 144 countries, from Courtyard to Ritz-Carlton, at prices the public booking pages never show. For years it lived on printed authorization forms; since April 2026 it lives inside the Bonvoy account itself.

MMP vs MMF: the two tiers that matter

MMP — the Explore Rate. For associates and immediate family. The deep tier: typically 50–75% off the standard flexible rate. The trade-off almost nobody mentions: MMP stays earn no Bonvoy points and no elite nights.

MMF — the Explore Friends Rate. For authorized friends and extended family. Shallower — typically 20–50% off — but stays earn points and elite night credits normally, and availability tends to run wider.

With and without: checked live, same hotel, same dates

We ran these searches on marriott.com in late August / early September 2026 — standard flexible rate against the MMP rate, same hotel, same room category, same night:

Each pair is compared on the same basis — all properties with taxes and fees included except the two UAE hotels, which are before taxes. All eight land inside the typical 50–75% MMP band. Rates move daily, so treat these as the shape of the discount rather than a quote for your dates. MMF, the shallower friends tier, typically runs 20–50% off; we have not yet published verified MMF pairs. The rate is not available every day. Each hotel releases MMP inventory based on its own occupancy, so busy dates, peak seasons and popular resort weekends often show no MMP rate at all, and availability differs from hotel to hotel. It is not a blanket discount you can apply to any stay — city hotels midweek show the rate most reliably, resort weekends close first. Check your actual hotel and dates before deciding; the steps are below.

Anyone logged into a Marriott Bonvoy account can see the MMP price for a specific hotel and date — and because availability varies by hotel and date, you should run the comparison for your own trip before deciding whether the access is worth it:

  1. Search as normal on marriott.com (desktop) or in the Marriott Bonvoy app: hotel or city, dates, guests.
  2. Open Special Rates — the field sits next to dates and rooms on the search panel.
  3. Select "Corp/Promo Code", type MMP, press Apply. The search header changes to "Corp/Promo Code – MMP".
  4. Read the results. Rooms priced at the associate rate show a "Special Rate Available" badge with the MMP price. Switch Special Rates back to "Lowest Regular Rate" to see the standard price for the same room — that is how the table above was built.
  5. Next time, just tick it. The code stays saved on your search; later, toggling the special-rate option brings MMP pricing back without retyping.

Seeing the rate and being eligible to book it are different things — which is the next section.

The April 2026 change: forms are dead, accounts are the key

The old ritual — an associate generates a PDF authorization form, you print it, the front desk collects it — was retired in April 2026. Under the digital system, a sponsor associate links the guest's Bonvoy account to the Explore system, and eligibility travels with the account: book online, show photo ID at check-in. In practice the transition is uneven — some properties still ask for paper backup and some front desks are still learning the system — so keeping written confirmation of your authorization remains the smart habit.

The eligibility truth

Marriott's rules are explicit: Explore is for associates and their genuine friends and family, leisure travel only, room limits enforced, ID checked. Any arranged access — including the 12-month digital authorization we sell at US$2,399 a year — sits outside those eligibility rules. Marriott can refuse the rate at the desk, cancel bookings, or shut down access it identifies as improper. We put that in writing before payment, our terms cover what happens if access is revoked mid-term, and the same test applies as everywhere on this site: if the risk does not sit comfortably, do not buy the product.

The arithmetic for those who do proceed: at typical MMP spreads, US$2,399 pays back in roughly 10–15 nights. A 30-night-a-year traveller at upscale properties saves several times the fee. A 5-night-a-year traveller should keep their money — or ask about a shorter term than 12 months, which we offer on request for people with a concentrated travel window. And if points and status matter more than the rate, our status packages are the honest recommendation instead, since MMP earns neither.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between MMP and MMF?

MMP is the Explore Rate for Marriott associates and immediate family — the deepest tier, typically 50-75% off standard flexible rates, but stays earn no Bonvoy points. MMF is the Explore Friends Rate for authorized friends and extended family — usually 20-50% off, and stays do earn points and elite nights.

How do I check Marriott Explore Rate prices?

Anyone can look, no access needed. On marriott.com or the Bonvoy app, search your hotel and dates, open Special Rates, choose Corp/Promo Code, enter MMP and press Apply. Rooms at the associate rate show a "Special Rate Available" badge with the MMP price; switch back to Lowest Regular Rate to compare. Seeing the rate and being eligible to book it are separate questions — booking needs a valid authorization on your Bonvoy account.

What changed in April 2026?

Marriott phased out the paper Explore Authorization Form in favour of digital verification: a sponsor associate links the guest's Bonvoy account to the Explore system, and eligibility travels with the account. Many properties still accept or request paper backup, and front-desk training on the new system is uneven, so carrying confirmation remains wise.

How big are the savings really?

Checked live on marriott.com on 31 August 2026, same room and dates: W London £352 → £142 on MMP (60% off), The St. Regis Downtown Dubai AED 1,519 → AED 547 (64% off), The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah AED 1,615 → AED 675 (58% off). MMF lands shallower, roughly 20-50% off. Availability is capacity-controlled, so the rate does not appear at every property on every date — city hotels midweek are the most reliable, peak resort weekends the least.

Is the MMP rate available every day?

No. MMP is capacity-controlled: each hotel decides how much inventory to release at the associate rate based on its own occupancy, so busy dates, peak seasons and popular resort weekends often show no MMP rate, and availability varies from hotel to hotel. It is not a blanket discount for any stay. Log into your Bonvoy account, enter MMP under Special Rates for your hotel and dates, and the rate shows if it is available.

Can anyone use the Explore Rate?

Under Marriott's rules, no — it is for associates and their genuine friends and family, leisure travel only, with room limits and photo ID at check-in. Arranged access (including ours, at US$2,399 a year) sits outside those eligibility rules, and Marriott can refuse the rate or cancel access it identifies as improper. Anyone selling this access without saying so is not being straight with you.

Is Explore Rate access worth US$2,399 a year?

Arithmetic, not opinion: at typical MMP spreads the fee pays back in roughly 10-15 nights. Someone staying 30+ nights a year at upscale properties saves multiples of the cost; someone staying five nights should not buy it, and we say so. MMP also earns no points — if status matters more, an elite status package is the better tool. If your travel is concentrated in a few weeks rather than spread across the year, ask about a shorter term — available on request.
