Singapore Airlines runs what many frequent flyers consider the best premium product in the sky — and KrisFlyer is one of the few programmes where the award chart still rewards you handsomely for using miles rather than cash. The catch is earning them. Here’s what buying KrisFlyer miles costs, how the redemption maths works, and the honest risks.

Suites and First Class. Singapore’s Suites product is the reason many people build a KrisFlyer balance in the first place — a private cabin with a separate bed, bookable with miles on Saver awards that Singapore reserves for its own members. Cash fares for the same seat run into five figures on long-haul routes; the miles cost, bought at our rates, is a fraction of that.
Business class to Europe and the US. The bread-and-butter redemption: a long-haul business award, booked as a Saver, is where the arithmetic almost always beats paying cash — especially since Singapore reserves its best award availability for KrisFlyer members rather than partner programmes.
Star Alliance partners. KrisFlyer miles also book Lufthansa, Swiss, Thai, ANA and the rest of the alliance, which makes a balance flexible even when Singapore’s own space is tight. If you fly Star Alliance often, pair this with Star Alliance Gold status for lounge access on the same trips.
Travellers, mostly — people with a specific trip in mind rather than collectors. Someone finds Suites or business space on the dates they want, works out they’re short 80,000 miles, and buys the gap. That is the ideal way to use a broker: buy for a redemption you’ve already identified, not to hoard a balance.

Buying miles outside KrisFlyer’s own channels is against programme terms. Singapore Airlines can audit accounts, void miles or close them if it identifies purchased miles. Anyone in this business who tells you otherwise is selling you a story. What we do about it: transfers are structured to resemble ordinary account activity, quantities are sized sensibly, and after more than a decade we have a clear sense of what is safe. Rare is not never — decide knowing that.
One practical note: buy close to your redemption. Miles sitting in an account for months serve no purpose and only add exposure. Find your award space first, then buy.
Run the number: (miles needed × your rate from the table above) + taxes, against the cash fare. On Suites and long-haul business the miles route usually wins by thousands. On economy or short-haul it rarely does.
